Fayette County, PA is celebrating one of our own! A huge congratulations to Connellsville's Nancy Grimm on bringing home a bronze medal from the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota. Representing Pennsylvania in five-on-five soccer, Nancy's hard work, determination, and team spirit earned her a place on the podium, but the memories and friendships she made along the way are just as meaningful. Nancy has been involved with Special Olympics for approximately 18 years, inspiring everyone around her with her dedication and positive attitude. Her accomplishment is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance, teamwork, and believing in yourself. Congratulations, Nancy! Voices of Home is a community storytelling project preserving the memories and experiences of the people who call Fayette County home. Through relaxed 5 to 10 minute conversations, we'll create podcasts, Fayette TV features, social media content, and a permanent digital archive for future generations. We're looking to partner with senior centers, churches, schools, veterans groups, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups to host a Voices of Home Story Day. We bring all the equipment and handle the recording, making it easy for your members to share their stories in a comfortable, informal setting. Downtown Perryopolis is the place to be this week! The 88th Annual Fayette County Firefighters' Association Convention, hosted by the Perry Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. is bringing the community together for a week of tradition, entertainment, and hometown fun. Tonight head to the Circle for the Tug of War & Truck Pull beginning at 7:00 p.m. (registration starts at 6:00 p.m.) and enjoy live music by the Party Time Polka Band. While you're there, take some time to explore Main Street, visit local businesses, and experience everything Perryopolis has to offer. Sew Special Alterations Shop will close its doors this month after serving as a fixture of downtown Uniontown and the Fayette County business community since 1993. Owner Donna Eicher began offering alteration services at her shop on West Main Street in April of that year, setting up her business next door to the Fayette Chamber of Commerce. 💙 It's never too late to achieve a dream. One of the most inspiring stories recently in The Daily Courier Connellsville is about Margaret Brown of Dunbar Township, who celebrated her 100th birthday by receiving her high school diploma from the Connellsville Area School District. After leaving school to raise her family, Margaret finally earned the diploma she had waited more than 80 years to receive, proving that determination and perseverance have no age limit. Congratulations to Margaret on this incredible milestone and to everyone who helped make this unforgettable day possible. Both Connellsville and Uniontown proudly participated in #SharingtheSpiritofAmerica, a nationwide America250 event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Only three communities in Southwestern Pennsylvania took part in this special event, and Fayette County, PA was home to two of them! It's just another example of how our communities continue to celebrate our nation's history in meaningful ways. 🇺🇸 Today, Fayette County, PA is making history... twice! 🇺🇸 Today, communities across all 50 states, five U.S. territories, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Minor Outlying Islands will come together for a nationwide public reading of the Declaration of Independence, commemorating the 250th anniversary of its first public reading on July 8, 1776. While many communities across the country are taking part, participation in Southwestern Pennsylvania is limited. In fact, only three locations in our region are hosting an official reading, and Fayette County is home to two of them! Connellsville and Uniontown are proudly leading the way, with Waynesburg being the only other participating community in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This is another example of Fayette County's commitment to honoring our nation's history and celebrating America250th Anniversary. Along the way, communities across the country are coming together to celebrate our nation's history and honor those who have served. We're proud to share that three Fayette County, PA residents will be taking part in this once-in-a-generation event! Mary Sampy, Carla Lytle, and Richard Black will run Segment 221 from Cumberland Township to Georges Township, covering 12.4 miles on Thursday, July 2 If you're out exploring Fayette County, take a few minutes to cheer them on and be part of this historic journey as the relay makes its way toward Washington, D.C. for the nation's 250th birthday celebration on July 4.
